I am a big fan of what Oak and Oyster is doing with their pop-up concepts. We recently visited for their 50 Fifty deli pop-up in the lower level of Third Coast Provisions (which, by the way, is a GORGEOUS space. I need to get back there for their food, too).

I was immediately drawn to their Egg Cream cocktail which was peanut butter whiskey (!!!), house made chocolate syrup, banana, milk and seltzer. It was so, so good. Still dreaming of it.

The food is pretty shareable here, so we got to try a lot of stuff - all fantastic. Pigs in a blanket, handcut steak fries, chili, pastrami sandwich, and the smoked turkey club. The pigs in a blanket were a little tricky to share because it is just one...pig (?)...per order, but they were so freaking delicious. During happy hour they're half off, so try them then.

Overall, I am impressed but also not surprised. I am a big fan of these folks as Merriment Social has been making me happy for years.

My new favorite happy hour spot! Weekday happy hour is 4-6pm and it's definitely better to get there on the earlier side of things. Oak & Oyster is in the basement of 3CP and so there is not a ton of seating, though even at 5:30 you can find a spot, you just may need to wait for service. They seem to only have one waiter for the whole room, food runners from upstairs help out and there is a bar back busily shucking oysters constantly ($1 oysters at HH), but your best bet is to put in your whole order as soon as you get a chance!

Both times I've been the people I've been with have raved about the $5 po'boy which changes monthly. My favorite is the calamari taco with seaweed salad and a pineapple chutney on it. Amazing! The shrimp taco is great too with a spicy sauce on top. They are sizable tacos, and are great at $4 each. The lobster roll sliders are also quite tasty, and the rotating cocktail special for $5 has been a hit with my companions on both visits.

My only suggestion is to double the wait staff. The secret is out, Milwaukee knows this is a great spot for seafood and cheap drinks, just get that poor waiter some back up!

Oak & Oyster is a bar with elevated food and a killer alternative playlist--perfect for the first date or after-work drinks.

I've been lucky to experience it roughly a half dozen times during happy hour and the staff is extremely pleasant. It may get busy because of a few awesome things:

Happy Hour includes a signature cocktail for the week, inexpensive High Life's (if I recall: $2) a $5 Po Boy of the Month and $1 oysters. Among other killer deals on sliders and tacos.

They don't risk the quality of the oysters and typically feature a combination of east and west coast varieties. The accoutrements include: fresh grated horseradish, cocktail sauce, mignonette and a lemon (with wraps)! Hard to beat.

Far from a fan of basements, I find the Oak & Oyster Happy Hour establishment below 3CP to be a nicely tucked away hidden gem. I come here fairly regularly to enjoy the Po' Boy specials they crank out week to week.

Between being able to enjoy a killer $5 Po' Boy on some of the best house made buns one could find and the $1 shucks, all during happy hour, you really can't go wrong. They have created a unique twist to an area of this restaurant that would normally go unrecognized. I would expect this spot to become even cozier as we settle into the Wisconsin winter!

Ok, I think I've experienced enough to write a review now.

Oak & Oyster is the name of the lower level lounge inside Third Coast Provisions. It's become especially popular for its great Happy Hour specials, featuring a weekly $5 Po'boy, $4 Lobster Sliders, $3 Fried Oyster Sliders, and $1 raw oysters freshly flown in from the east and west coasts. There are usually at least 6 different oysters to choose from and the options are always changing.

Happy Hour also features a $5 beer or cocktail. Recently, Oak & Oyster introduced me to a brewery called the Moody Tongue, out of Chicago. The owner and brew master has a culinary degree and creates beers intended to be paired with food. Oak & Oyster seems to do a great job in finding the right drink pairings for their food.

The Po'boys have been good to great. The lobster slider and fried oyster slider are very good. I think the oyster slider is my favorite item on the menu so far. I tried the steak taco, but there was a sauce (maybe the smoked tomato salsa) that left a sour note that over powered the taco. If I could give 4 1/2 stars, I would.

I'll stick with the seafood and po'boys. I definitely recommend adding this place to your regular Happy Hour rotation, or stop in before you have dinner upstairs.
